Fibromyalgia Personal Testimony
I have Fibromyalgia Syndrome. There are fair-to-middlin’ days, bad days, and some days it’s just best not to talk about it. When the rheumatologist diagnosed me I asked him what on earth Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) was. He told me it had to do with muscles and connective tissues. He prescribed a mild anti-depressant, told me get some sleep and put my stress behind me. I assumed then all would be well. How little I knew — but I was to learn.
The Seven For TRIGGER POINTS
The number and locations of [trigger points] define fibromyalgia in rheumatology, the specialty concerned with bone, joint, and muscle disorders. Specifically, according to the diagnostic criteria for fibromyalgia established by the American College of Rheumatology, trigger points must be present in at least eleven out of eighteen established sites.
Fibromyalgia Symptoms
The pain from Fibromyalgia is both widespread and localized. This condition usually results in a general achiness and stiffness throughout the body. In addition, sufferers may feel pain at one or all of the “tender points” on the body. These “tender points” are designated sites on the body where tendon connects to bone. They are found in the areas of the shoulders, neck, back, arms, and buttocks.
Symptoms of Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is one of the most common pain syndromes that affects over four million Americans of all ages. While doctors debate the exact causes, the symptoms of fibromyalgia are widely understood.
Causes, Symptoms, and Signs of Fibromyalgia
The cause of this disorder is unknown. Physical or emotional trauma may play a role in development of the syndrome. A number of lines of evidence suggest that fibromyalgia patients have abnormal pain transmission responses. It has been suggested that sleep disturbances, which are common in fibromyalgia patients, may actually cause the condition.
