College student that has fibromyalgia

Hey. My name is Kim and I'm a freshmen in college that has recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Being a college student and having fibromyalgia has been a great difficulty. And I'm just getting used to dealing with this pain and fatigue. I'm also a music major which is a very demanding major but I wouldn't change it in the world. I am on a strict low-carb diet and I'm taking anti-depressants and guaifenesin. I also have to get at least 9 hours of sleep or I can't survive the day. My friends and professors have been really supportive through my struggles and I'm very thankful for that.

I was just wondering if they are any people my age that are suffering just like me. I hear about older women getting fibromyalgia, but not young adults like me. I feel like a big minority and that no one understands what I'm going through.

But through it all...God is good. :)

my daughter is also in college and has been diagnosed with FM . She doesn't seem to have it as bad as what I've been seeing but suffers none the less. has anyone had any experience taking Bovine Colostrum? We are going to try this but was interested to hear of any results or thoughts.
Thank you.

I feel your pain. I have been dealing with severe to mild shoulder pain for the last 4 months. It has gotten increasingly worse up until now. Muscle relaxers don't help but they do help at getting me to sleep. I just tried a 5mg Oxycodone and it has helped a little bit. What else can I do?

When I started experiencing pain all the time, I first went to my primary family doctor to make sure it wasn't anything else that could be life-threatening. Then I went to the othropedist to make sure none of my bones were giving me trouble. Then I went to a rhumatologist, who actually diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. You first need to check off every other condition before you get diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It's annoying, but necessary. I suggest getting checked for lupus, lyme disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. Those conditions could also give you the same symptoms as fibromyalgia. But yeah, start with your primary doctor. You don't have to go through the same steps I did. Just talk to your primary doctor and ask about possibly testing for fibromyalgia and related conditions. Good luck! :)

And an update on my condition. I am now a sophomore in college. My condition has been getting better thanks to my wonderful doctor up in Heaven and down here on earth. I am taking lots of supplements to balance out the chemicals in my body to help get rid of the pain. I am also taking natural anti-depressants and sleep medications to help with the fatigue and depression side of things. I am only taking a small pain killer daily and a heavier pain killer when I need it. I have to make sure I get 10 hours of sleep and make sure that I exercise daily. I have more energy and my pain level has gone down drastically. So praise God for that!

Being a college student and having fibromyalgia has been a great difficulty. You have to withdraw these pain and go on study... If you always have pain, you have to see a doctor. Hope you get better soon.

Hello, usually you hear of middle aged women getting fibro.also they tend to have other health problems that may contribute to their fm symptoms.

I'm a 34 year old healthy active male!!
Hard to believe that I could end up with something like this but hearing that youger college students get this confirms that unusuall things can usually happen... :)
