Fibromyalgia- any help?

Postby K_T033 on Sun Dec 26, 2010 3:01 pm

Hello,

My name is Kristina and I am posting this for some help and guidance-- I am desperate. My father, 55 years old, has been suffering for approximately 3 months from chronic muscle and joint pain. After several doctor visits, and numerous medical tests, there appears to be neither a diagnosis or treatment for his pain. He is experiencing pain in his back, shoulders, arms and legs, and has difficulty sleeping. A chiropractor recently brought our attention to Fibromyalgia and I have since been researching this disease/non-disease for some useful information. I cannot express the sadness I feel watching my father in such agonizing pain day after day. I want to help... I NEED to help him and I feel like there must be something that can help to ease his suffering but I have no idea where to start...

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated,

concerned daughter,
Kristina.

Hello and sorry to hear that your father is not doing well. I totally understand his plight and your concern I was really concerned myself when I found out what was wrong with me and started reading about it. That was quite some time ago and I have gotten to the point where the pain is just something that I have to deal with and I go on with my life. Just some advice, if your father is given a bunch of prescriptions tell him to be careful with them. I was given pain meds, muscle relaxers, anti inflamitories and a couple of other things I don't remember them all...however I wound up with kidney infection after kidney infection. About six or so months of overmedicated misery later I figured it must be all of the medication on my already overtaxed renal system. I now just take an anti depressant and when the pain is unbearable ibuprofen. Something I have noticed over the years is that the more carbs and sugar I eat the worse I feel. I get on websites and search engines about once or twice a year just to check and see if there is any progress or new information. The last thing I read was from today, don't know how good the info is but it was on stem cell implants helping heal fibromyalgia and another website that claimed it was caused by biofilm bacteria. In any event it seems that the medical community is coming along in research and there is hope. Check out things about diet and exercise if he smokes and drinks he should stop, every little change makes a difference. I like yoga, walking and swimming in warm pools. I should rephrase that...I am a lazy person at heart so I do not like exercise but out of all that I could do those seem to help me the most. Hot baths are a godsend and I would live in my bathtub if I could. One more thing, this illness ...no matter what you are told...I believe it to be hereditary. My mother has it and so do two of my siblings even though we have different fathers. I was told by a doctor here in Germany when I was pregnant that my child had a fifty percent chance of inheriting it but every doctor I went to in America said that they had no idea if it was hereditary. Anywho, take care of your father and yourself and try not to stress too much, it does not help anything.
