I am new to the forum. I have not been technically diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but I think there is little doubt that that is what I have had since a young child struggling with "growing pains".
Recently I happened upon the suggestion that guaifenesin (Mucinex) might be helpful. I was taking it for chest congestion and had a terrible "flair" of "global" pain affecting virtually every muscle and joint. While looking up Mucinex side effects, I found the connection with guaifenesin and fibromyalgia. I always suspected I had fibromyalgia, but reading the description it was clear that I had many, many of the symptoms including painful muscle "lumps'" especially in my left thigh, very rapid build of tartar on my teeth, attacks of all over muscle and joint pain that lifts suddenly only to return, unusual and extreme exhaustion at times despite generally good health, etc, etc....and have had my whole life. It is getting worse with time.
I took Mucinex long acting 600 mg twice a day for two more days, and was in a great deal of pain. So I broke down and took a 50 mg Tramadol that had been prescribed for my pain. I took my second Mucinex of the day a few hours later....a few hours after that I had a terrible attack of vertigo (the room DID spin) which I have never had before. I figure it was either the Mucinex, or the Mucinex combined with the Tramadol. It didn't go away completely until the next morning.
Now I am afraid to continue with the guaifenesin. Am I correct in understanding that the dizziness will lessen over time? I would almost have to be taken care of until it did, because the vertigo was really disorientating and I wouldn't be able to take care of much of anything, including driving and work, until it did. I am not really interested in explaining to my employer what I am attempting to do, but to finally find someway to ameliorate the pain and exhaustion I have been experiencing for years is awfully attractive.
