Hi 'Very Happy' my name is Kate, I haven't been formally diagnosed but my PC is pretty sure that I have fibro. A few weeks ago I was in the ER with what has now been diagnosed as migraines and now I'm to see a Rhuemetologist to confirm or rule out the fibro.
It may also be rheumatic arthritis or possibly a combination of both.

Gosh where do I begin...
I'm a nurse and I guess it starts there. I was injured on the job, herniated L4-L5 and ended up with surgery. Over 2 years later, and after recontructive surgery due to foot drop and nerve damage from the laminectomy, I was able to return to work in the intensive care unit. I love my job, but, it progressively got harder and harder due to continued pain from sciatica. And then I developed, what I was considering, arthritic pain, in my hands and feet. My neck was stiff, as were my hips and shoulders. My neck would ache...Almost like I had a fever and the accompanying aches and pains. It would hit me for a period of days and I would be hobbling around my house using a cane becase it would exacerbate my back problems to the point of...well...hobbling.... Smile I ended up getting an epidural block for the sciatica that was like a miracle. The shooting pains dissappeared for at least 2 years and only recently have I noticed occasional sciatic pain. I still have back aches don't get me wrong but they are much better then they were.
Of course it did little if nothing for the rest of the aching I was having to endure in the rest of my body.

Currently I'm taking topamax for the headaches, 25mg at night, to be increased to 50 tonight, also tizanidine 2mg that I use to help me sleep. I also have a goiter(lucky me!) and take synthroid and effexor 75mg for major depressive disorder. I take Vicodin 7.5 for the pain, and thats all right now till i see the rheumy. I still work at the hospital part time, I only work partial shifts, I find that I cant do a 12 hr shift like I used to. And there are days, like today actually, when I find myself using a cane to get around due to weakness and pain. It's so nice to find a place like this where I can meet people that have similar stories and can share information that might help me better undertand whats going on with me! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
