I am really suffering just now

Postby foxywoman46 on Tue Oct 10, 2006 4:05 am

As in the title, I am really suffering just now. I am getting bad pains in one finger of my right hand (the middle one). My doctor has done blood tests for rheumatoid arthritis (negative), and all sorts of other blood tests (all negative). He said it's 'unusual' to get hand pain with fibro, is this right? He reckons it affects the large muscles and joints rather than fingers etc. I am in real pain with this, especially at night in bed. I have had x-rays done, the results will be ready in a couple of weeks.

Naw......you can have fibro pain anywhere at anytime......very strange places....some shooting pains, some cramping, dull ache...you name it........pain is the name of this game...that and bouts of total fatigue........so the CFS and FMS come together.

If it is only one finger then it is possible that it may not be related to the Fibromyalgia. Since it does not sound as if the blood tests are revealing any clues, you may consider spinal adjustment by a chiropractor that is experienced with Fibro sufferers. Pain in the middle finger can often indicate a problem of the cervical spine, C7. Active Release Techniques, a method of treating soft tissue, may also provide some relief. A practitioner of this method would probably need to release the bilateral subscapularis, one of the rotator cuff muscles.

I don't know about this 'one finger' theory but I can tell you for certain, that one CAN have pain in the hands with fibro.....I do....it comes and goes. It hurts just like the hips, the back, the shoulders, etc. I know other fibro sufferers who experience hand pain. There is also foot pain...pain, burning, tingling, itching in hands and feet....and mouth. It is not that uncommon. Some fibro sufferers experience neuropathy issues. I have been dealing with this for several years now. It first started with the feet, then the tongue, then corner of my mouth, then lips, then the outer edges of my nose. One can have these neuropathy symptoms/issues w/out having fibro. The mouth problem is called BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME.....WOW.....isn't that clever!!!! But unfortunately, it does exist regardless of the unintelligible name. For me, it responds well to taking the Neurontin.......I have not been able to handle Lyrica or Cymbalta but tolerate Neurontin and Tramadol well.

Also, I don't know where you live, but the cold and/or damp weather is murder for fibro patients. It affects fibro just like arthritis but fortunately, I do not have arthritis. I too have areas that are more affected than others. It appears to me that where ever I have weaknesses, the fibro attacks that more strongly. I was very active in sports in my early years so I do have some weak spots......no injuries, just weak areas.
