Anna maria from Greece

Hi

I have just been almost diagnosed with fibromyalgia but not satisfied by doctor's attitude or guidance.
I found this site and decided it would be great if I could exchange information with people that can feel what I am feeling.
I do not know exactly how this forum works but will learn soon.
That is all for now :)

Anna Marie,

I, too, am new to this site. I was diagnosed with Fibro about 1 1/2 ago. I am still struggling to deal with this illness, condition, or disease (everyone seems to call it something different), whatever you want to call it. I am having difficulty getting my family (mother and sisters) to understand what it is like to have fibro and all it's little quirks. They don't seem to understand the disease and as far as I know, they have researched it either. It is a frustrating thing to deal with well-meaning family members that say "can't you try harder", "what do you mean you don't remember", "you didn't go to work today? Why?", "but why are you hurting, I don't understand!". I'm wondering if you are going through the same thing from those around you. If you have any words of wisdom on how you are handling things, being new to the Fibro world also, they would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely, Debs71

Hi

I am very glad you sent me a reply it is the first one I received so far
Fibro is not a disease I think, it is a syndrome and might be called an autoimmune condition.
Of course I am not an expert and my doctors are not that well informed so I have had for two years now to visit many doctors as well as study a bit about the condition.
It could be that the body is attacking itself, which is either explained by defective genes or stressful situations .But then again noone really knows.
My main problem is not the people I am dealing with but the doctors who either do not understand care or want to investigate my case further.
However I am very stubborn and keep on trying. First of all a diagnosis for fibro is said to be a bit unreliable. So I have all the symptoms or actually some like muscles that are contracted and rigid and painful and definitely pain that can spread everywhere.
I do not have memory problems or fatigue I actually have too much energy and some other symptoms that do not fit with fibro..
So, so far I have decided a weekly massage and daily intake of anxiolytic medication works fine and relieves 70% of the problem.
Of course I am not stopping here I need to get to the bottom of this and find out what is causing it.It could be something else that is causing the problem and whatever that is I want to find.
But I won't go on any further till I hear from you.
What have you done to handle the discomfort , are you receiving some kind of treatment for instance???
Would love to hear from you.
