Just diagnosed, but not convinced...

Postby Loki_31 on Thu Apr 08, 2010 12:58 pm

Hello,
I just came back from a neurology appt and was told that I have fibromyalgia. I am not convinced of this and wanted to run my symptoms by everyone here and get your thoughts. My main concern when going to see him was that my upper back (between the shoulder blades) experiences tingling, burning, and numbness on a daily basis. It is so uncomfortable, It feels like if your foot falls asleep..the pins and needles..all the time. Driving me crazy! An MRI came back fine. I have also been to a chiropractor for a couple of months several times a week with no improvement. I do not experience muscle pain in other parts of my body though. It is only the tingling in my upper back. In addition to this I have the following other symptoms which may be related:
1. Frequent migraines.
2. Lack of concentration/memory issues
3. Horrible sleep behavior. Have been using prescription sleep-aids on/off for the last 3 years (which I thought might be causing these issues, but I have really cut down my usage of them and only take them a few times a month now, with no improvement in my back issues.
Thanks so much for your time,
Mel

I think everyone who was diagnosed with Fibro questions it. I know I do! I've been suffering from fibro since 2003 and was diagnosed a few years ago. Since there's no real test for Fibro, it's only by eliminating all other medical possibilities and running out of ideas of what to try next that you get diagnosed with it. All my "tests" always come back as if I'm healthy, yet I suffer every day! In the end, I believe that the medical community really has no idea about fibro, so I make it a point to keep trying stuff to see if it helps. I have tried acupuncture, hypnosis, physical therapy, frequency modulation, brainwave optimization, chiropractic, vitamin and supplements, guided meditation, and a host of other therapies to see if anything helps. Nothing has yet, but I keep on trying. I just started a new gluten free diet and a new doctor. Fingers crossed :)

You need to keep reading up on it, join all the groups, check out http://www.fmaware.org (National Fibromyalgia Association) and join up on facebook's fibro community. Lots of sharing of info and news.

Good luck!

Hi

The worst symptom for me is the muscle stiffness. It feels as if I have been weightlifting for three hours even if I just attempted to clean a window or sth. Secondly I cannot write anymore as my whole right arm and shoulder not to mention the back of the neck and my fingers swell and one day I actually could not bend my fingers. Everyone thinks I am crazy or under too much stress but they do not think of the fact that the discomfort causes the stress, or does it go both ways?

Hypnosis should help. What exactly did the doctor do for you?Not that I can find a certified hypnotist in Greece but I am really curious as I believe it should work miracles.
