Told it's "probably Fibromyalgia"

Hi There! I am a 36 year old mother of 4. I have recently been told by 3 doctors that what I have is "probably Fibromyalgia".

My symptoms started in the Summer of 2010. I awoke one morning feeling almost hung-over (but hadn't been drinking). I remember feeling fuzzy headed and off balanced. When I stood up and attempted to walk, I kept staggering to the left. I bumped into the walls walking down my hallway. I wrote it off to being weak and needing to eat. This lasted a few days.

Come Fall of 2010, I started noticing that I seemed to be getting headaches a lot! It felt like someone had my head in a vice. Then there was the heartburn. I never had a problem with heartburn before, but now it seemed like every time I had a glass of wine, cooler or something spicy, there it was.

The body aches started in October. I remember for a period of almost a week I had difficulty going up and down my stairs. Putting socks and shoes on was agonizing! More then once I asked my boyfriend to put on my shoes because I couldn't lift my leg high enough to do it myself. On December 1, 2010, I went to work even though my body was telling me to stay in bed. My whole body hurt and was stiff. My hips, lower back, shoulders, neck. I had the worst headache. I remember sitting at my desk at work in tears because I was in so much pain. That was the day I decided to go see a doctor and went to the clinic on my lunch hour.

He poked me here, squeezed me there. Almost everywhere he touched received a yelp of pain from me. He told me it was "myositis" and sent me for bloodwork. I went for the blood work and asked that they also send the results to my own physician. When I went in to see her, she told me it all looked good and asked what was going on. I explained the symptoms I had been experiencing up to the day I saw the doctor at the walk-in clinic, and that he called it "myositis". She said that is "basically Fibromyalgia".

Since then I have been back into the walk-in doctor numerous times. He has a referral into a rheumatologist, but my appointment isn't until November 14, 2011. He has me on Arthotec for inflamation and Tramacet for pain. I am in pain daily. Mostly upper back (between shoulders) and my hips and lower back. I have had pain all up my right arm and recently have had problems gripping things and doing up buttons. I get nasty headaches too. I have also noticed blurry/fuzzy vision and minor hearing loss but are not sure these are related. I am also still experiencing "brain fog" and moments where I cannot concetrate and my head feels fuzzy.

I also suffer from Interstitial Cystisis. That was diagnosed in early 2005.

I have looked up symptoms of Fibro, and do agree with the doctors that it seems very likely that that is what I have, but I have some concerns. My younger sister was just diagnosed with MS in December. Symptoms of MS and Fibro are quite similair. She wants me to push for an MRI as she is concerned my symptoms may be MS and not Fibro. I have told the doctors about my sister, but they seem to shrug the idea of me having MS off, saying my symptoms are more pain related and MS is numbness not pain.

I am getting frustrated and depressed. I want a definate answer as to what is going on with my body, not a bunch of "maybe/probably". Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated! :D

Hi, I have had bloodwork also. My primary care Dr. did bloodwork for MS and Rheumatoid arthritis among other things. Also have them check your Vit D levels. Everyone I have talked to that has this has also had low Vit d levels. Good luck and God Bless.

Hello, i was diagnosed with FM late last year. i too have wide spread pains and a whole host of other symptoms, numbness, balance problems, brain fog, headaches at times, gi problems, visual disturbences etc.

Your worrid about ms. So am i however, ive had

MRI of the neck
Lots of blood work
ct of the head.
Endoscopy
ct of the abdomin and pelvis.
all normal.
Even with the Numbness and tingles i get the Neurologist says I dont have MS that its fibromyalgia.
Ive also seen a Rheumatologist. everything normal.
Fibromyalgia is what they call it. im trying my best to settle on this.

its good to check for underlying conditions but if all checks out ok then its probably FM. :)
